Installation of the NUT-SEAL system
protector is accomplished by hand without the use of
tools. This protector is designed to work on all
standard fasteners(ASA and metric). Installation
steps are:
-
Clean the exposed portions of the nut and bolt.
-
Slip the NUT-SEAL protector over the exposed
threads and align the nut cover with the hex
nut.
-
Screw the barrel onto the bolt until it is hand
tight and back off ¼ turn.
-
Fill the protector with anticorrosion grease
until the elastomer membrane bugles and grease
starts to flow out the bottom of the nut cover.
-
Hand tighten the barrel ¼ turn to seat the
protector.
The corrosion resistant greases used are
specifically formulated to flow and fill the area
between the protector and the fastener. Greases that
do not flow well, especially at lower temperatures,
leave void spaces where the fastener is unprotected.
If the protector system is over pressurized causing
the membrane to excessively protrude, simply loosen
the protector one or two turns, allow the excess
grease to escape between nut surface and seal, then
tighten. Over pressuring does not improve
performance and may rupture the membrane. If the
membrane is ruptured, it can be replaced easily in a
few seconds.
Underwater installation steps are essentially the
same as top side installation with one important
variation. In step three after the protector is
tightened securely, back off two turns. Inject
grease until an excess amount visibly comes out from
the bottom of the nut cover and retighten the
protector. Finally, inject additional grease to
provide pressure.
